Your Furniture Restorer Gaisbauer

Have antique furniture restored

Do you have a valuable piece of furniture that seems to have seen better days? A family heirloom that urgently needs restoration? Or a collector’s item whose full value will only emerge through professional restoration?

Then Gaisbauer is the right place for you. For four generations, our furniture restorers have been breathing new life into historic furniture – with a unique combination of traditional craftsmanship, deep respect for the original, and state-of-the-art technology.

Why Gaisbauer is your partner for furniture restoration

  • Over 100 years of family tradition – The knowledge and techniques of four generations of master cabinetmakers and furniture restorers flow into every single project.
  • Authentic restoration – We work true to the original and respect the character of each era, from the Renaissance through Baroque to Biedermeier. We work from the ground up: substructures are refurbished, stable bases created. We’re not about a “nice first impression,” but about substance that lasts for decades. This makes our restorations extraordinarily sustainable.
  • State-of-the-art technology – Our in-house paint laboratory enables computer-assisted color tone and gloss level determination for perfect results.
  • All-round service – In collaboration with proven partner companies (gilders, upholsterers, glaziers, locksmiths), we offer you complete solutions from a single source.
  • We save what others give up – even “total losses” – Furniture with massive defects, breaks, missing parts, rotten wood or total worm damage – the “corpses” that others would have long since disposed of – we can still save exactly these pieces. Because we can reproduce missing parts and reconstruct even the most complex furniture.
  • Trust of renowned institutions – Stift Wilhering, Stift Heiligenkreuz and Kloster Marienberg have already entrusted us with their most valuable pieces.

What really matters in genuine furniture restoration

A successful restoration is far more than just “repair and repaint”.
It’s about:

  • Respect for the original
Each piece of furniture has its own story. Our goal is to preserve the original substance and maintain the authentic character of the piece – not to turn it into modern furniture.
  • Period-appropriate techniques
A Baroque cabinet requires different treatment methods than a Biedermeier secretary. We master the traditional techniques of each era and apply them professionally.
  • Masterful surface treatment
The surface makes the difference between a good and an excellent restoration. Whether hand-polished shellac according to old tradition or contemporary lacquer technique – we achieve the exact color tone and gloss level.
  • Substance preservation instead of cosmetics
Wherever possible, we preserve and conserve the original substance. Only where necessary do we supplement or replace wooden parts – always maintaining the overall character.
  • Precision in the micro range
With historic veneers or inlays, every tenth of a millimeter counts. With our high-tech equipment, we work so precisely that we protect valuable original substance as much as possible – an art that DIY methods never achieve.
  • Reconstruction of missing parts
We are not only restorers but also master cabinetmakers. This means: We can reproduce missing parts true to the original – from individual carvings to entire furniture parts. What others consider impossible is craftsmanship for us.

Professional furniture restoration – why cheap often becomes expensive

Let’s be honest: furniture restoration at the highest level has its price.
And that is the biggest pain point for many customers.

But there are good reasons why you shouldn’t save money when choosing your furniture restorer:

The problem with “cheap” restorers

The market is full of self-proclaimed restorers: hobby restorers who work in rented side rooms with DIY methods.

They offer dumping prices – but at what price for your furniture?

The bitter reality:

Many of these failed “restorations” end up with us later. Then we first have to repair the damage caused by improper treatment before we can even begin the actual restoration.

The furniture has taken additional damage – and in the end you pay twice.

Why professional restoration costs more

Not infrequently, several hundred hours of work go into a single piece of furniture. In addition:

  • High-tech equipment for precise work in the tenth-millimeter range

  • Own paint laboratory for perfect color matching

  • Decades of master training and expertise

  • Original materials and historic techniques

  • Preventive repairs that prevent future damage

Why we are cheaper in the long run

A professional Gaisbauer restoration pays for itself over a significantly longer period of use. While a cheap restoration causes problems again after a few years, our work lasts for decades – often generations.

In addition: We preserve the original substance to the maximum. Every unnecessary material removal permanently reduces the value of a historic piece of furniture. Our precise methods protect what others would destroy.

At Gaisbauer, we solve all these problems for you. With our experience, expertise and transparency, we accompany you from the first consultation to the finished masterpiece.

How your furniture restoration works at Gaisbauer

Transparency and clear communication are important to us. That’s why every project with us follows a proven, structured process:

Step 1

Free initial consultation & pickup

You contact us and describe your concern. We arrange an appointment – and pick up your furniture with our own fleet. Austria-wide as well as in Bavaria and South Tyrol. We transport your furniture carefully from the location in your apartment directly to our workshop – professionally and without damage.

Step 2

Detailed analysis & cost estimate
We examine the furniture thoroughly: What damage is there? What original substance is preserved? What techniques are required? Based on this analysis, we create a transparent, detailed cost estimate for you – without hidden costs.

Step 3

Live restoration in the master workshop

This is unique: You can be there live during the restoration! We regularly send you photos and videos directly from the workshop – via WhatsApp, directly from the workpiece. Total transparency, no secrets.

Our customers love this participation: They understand what we do, can still make decisions during restoration and “fine-tune” how thoroughly we proceed. At the same time, you have the complete restoration history on your phone – like a complete protocol.

Step 4

Final quality check

Before the furniture returns to you, it goes through our final quality control. Every detail is checked, every surface perfected.

Step 5

Handover & aftercare

We deliver on time to your desired location – ON TIME. On site, we optimally set up the furniture: With old parquet floors, we prevent any wobbling through professional support. Delivery is done with maximum commitment – carefully and free of damage. You also receive valuable care tips. Even after project completion, we are available for questions.

Our restoration services in detail

Wood restoration

From simple refinishing of wood surfaces to substance preservation through supplementing and replacing damaged wooden parts – we master all techniques of traditional woodworking. Even with severe worm damage or rot, we can often still save the original substance.

Surface restoration: Oil and lacquer work

The surface is the calling card of every piece of furniture. We offer:

  • Original shellac hand polish – Produced in elaborate handwork according to old tradition, it gives historic furniture its authentic shine.

  • Hard oil treatment – For a natural, matte look that can then be polished.

  • Traditional lacquer techniques – Spirit lacquer or antique lacquer for period-appropriate authenticity. Our paint laboratory guarantees perfect color tones and gloss levels.

Coordination with partner companies

Some restorations require specialists from other trades. We coordinate all necessary work for you with our long-standing partners: gilders, upholsterers, glaziers and locksmiths. You receive a complete offer from one source – without having to worry about the organization.

Which furniture we work on

Investment furniture

Old, historic furniture is an excellent investment. Through targeted, true-to-original furniture revitalization, we breathe new life into proven classics.

Family heirlooms

Pieces of furniture that have been passed down through generations in the family carry special emotional significance. We treat every heirloom with the care and love it deserves, and give it new life for the next generation.

Collector’s items

Whether Baroque, Biedermeier or Renaissance – collectors appreciate the quality and authenticity of our work. Our furniture restorers restore your valuable pieces to the highest standards and with the greatest respect for the original.

“Hopeless cases” – That we can still save

Massive defects, breaks, missing parts, rotten wood, total worm damage – where others have long since given up, we’re just getting started. Because we can reconstruct, reproduce and rebuild from the ground up. These “corpses” are our specialty.

What our customers say – Selected references

Trust is the foundation of every successful restoration.
That’s why we let our work speak:

Stift Wilhering & Stift Heiligenkreuz

These renowned monasteries have entrusted us with the restoration of their most valuable historic woodwork. With the greatest care, we have preserved and brought to life the unique character of altar, pulpit, cloister, confessional, doors, church pews and windows.

Kloster Marienberg, Burgenland

A confessional heavily damaged by woodworm seemed lost. Through comprehensive substance preservation and professional restoration, we were not only able to save this historic piece of furniture, but even give it new functionality. Today the confessional shines in new splendor and offers sufficient privacy.

In addition to these major projects, we have successfully completed countless private commissions – from small family heirlooms to valuable collector’s items. We treat each individual project with the same dedication and professionalism.
